Maison Martin Margiela for H&M

This collection reminds me of the Commes des Garcons collection several years ago. Subtle, avante garde and definitely not everyone's cup of tea! Did you see the gigantic shaped candy wrapper clutch? Or the glove purses? The clear stiletto-ish boots? The men's bling bling scarf? Unisex fur jacket?! This collection is like the Obama of tonight's presidential debate—it's subtle but in-your-face, it's all about bringing far-out ideas and making it now/reality/current, it's unabashedly aggressive yet remains elegant.

Serious props to H&M and Maison Martin Margiela for creating a dramatic and daring collection. Very different from the the ADR accessories collection that was a little more of a commercial success. Or the equally brief and interesting Lana Del Rey collection1

I can't say that I could pull off any of those outfits, but its accessory line is exciting enough that maybe I'm going to snatch that candy wrapper purse and the clear stiletto boots! Hooray!

It's Britney....B*!

Brit Brit's back and she looks way too fierce for her own good! I've gone absolutely ga ga over this dress. Think Kate Middleton's many dresses inspiring perfectly sane women to go completely bat-shit to find the same dress that she'd worn. Now think Brit Brit as my Kate Middleton1.

I can't seem to find the designer of this blue bodycon dress. But I've found something very similar. But in sizes medium and large. Wonderful2! The hunt continues...

1 Not really.

All for H&M

It's that time of year again!! We're less than one month away from my favourite day of the year. Yes, this day is even better than my birthday, because I get to stand in line for hours in the cold, enter the glorious doors of H&M at 10am and come out victorious with bags of happiness. But in order to walk out of the store with something other than H&M's "thank you goodies bag", there's a few things to keep in mind...

  1. Go early! You want to be either their first or second batch of people (They allow fifteen-ish people at a time into the section).
  2. Try to find someone to go with. One, so you two can take turns leaving and entering the line. Two, it's safer to have someone you know go with you incase anything happens to you. Three, you can only listen to Lady Gaga scream the edge of glory so many times.
  3. Make sure you go to the right stores! Only big stores carry the designer items. In Toronto, H&M at the Toronto Eaton Center and Bloor street will carry them. Is there any other that I'm missing? Yorkdale?
  4. You're going to be lining up outdoors...dress warmly! You can never be too warm. Make sure you wear lots of layers, and if it might rain, DO NOT WEAR COTTON. It's a trick I learned on the wet and cold slopes of Mt. Fuji. Yes, I am comparing the two.
  5. Bring snackies and water. My cousin and I once had to eat Burger king onion rings at 7am. It was not pretty.
  6. Bring something to sit on. Something that is foldable, light and that you don't mind wrecking. A plastic bag works. I tried that once.
  7. Get some sleep the night before!

The doors open on November 17th at 10am. I'll be the Toronto Eaton Center coming out with these goodies! See you there!! Oh btw, here's the entire collection.
